A Low-Insertion Loss Cryogenic Edge-Mode Isolator With 18 GHz Bandwidth

Cryogenic isolators play an important role in low-noise receiver systems widely employed millimeter and submillimeter telescopes. To enable a significantly wider Intermediate Frequency (IF) bandwidth, there is strong demand for wideband, low-loss isolator modern facilities like the Submillimeter Array (SMA) Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter (ALMA). In this article, we present novel cryogenic edge-mode that incorporates innovative circuit design. Operating at temperature of 4 K, delivers unprecedented performance, covering frequency range from GHz to 22 GHz. It exhibits insertion loss less than 1 dB, together with return below -15 dB. particular, it provides isolation better 17 dB across most band, significant improvement over previous generation isolators. This new design suitable wide array applications, radio-astronomy quantum computing.

This paper describes cryogenic broadband amplifier with very low noise for the frequency band 1.5-4.5 GHz.
